Why do they just let people on the show that are from California? That really stinks, because other people in the USA want to be on it too. For example, my brother would be really good at it, but we live in Kentucky. I wish that they would change it.

It seems odd considering the international versions are all filmed in Argentina, so people from across the World fly there. Surely then it wouldn't be too much to fly people from across America to the US course in California.

All the other shows are paid for by the individual host country. I.E. Brittan pays for the rights to be able to use the Wipeout idea, and then does their own thing on the course in Argentina. Notice, they only give out 20,000 pounds, or even 10. All the other countries don't offer as much either. The more they have to pay to fly people and put them up, the less they have to throw at the winner. If you have an unlimited amount of idiots in California who want face time on t.v., why waste your time on getting people here from further away? P.S. They are not looking for people who would "do good" on the show... they want WIPEOUTS!! That's what makes the fun!

What if people are willing to pay for their own flight/accomodations? I'm sure there are many people who are willing to take a vacation and be on the show while they're at it. And it can't hurt the show financially, even if not many people do it this way. At least the option would be there.

I don't know if it's for financial reasons, or insurance reasons, or legal, but I think it's a dumb rule, to be honest. I love Wipeout, but they should let other states participate, even if it means the prize money is reduced.
I do find it funny that the contestants are from California, but the hosts are from Iowa and Connecticut.

I do find it funny that the contestants are from California, but the hosts are from Iowa and Connecticut. I'm not sure why people think ABC needs to "let other states participate", like they need to include everybody. This is not elementary school. ABC is out to make a buck, and they are doing very well. Why reach out and make it harder on them if they already have a good thing going? They already are sending some some of the obstacles around on a tour to let people have a go... but this is not to be kind. It's to build up the viewer base. Sorry, I sound so negative, but it gets obnoxious to hear people complain about this topic. P.S. I like the part about the hosts too, like the talent should play by the same rules as the contestants... haha.

Eh. If you guys really are upset about only Californians being allowed to participate, you don't have to watch. You can find the Australian and British versions online, or watch MXC or Takeshi's Castle. I like Wipeout, but it's not like it's all that original. Obstacle courses are an old concept.
I'm not advocating that anyone quit watching the show, but it's not like anyone is forcing you to watch it.

As long as people keep watching, and Wipeout is doing nothing illegal, they really can just ignore the other 49 states.

Perhaps the CA restrictions have been repealed.
